Boarding Pass

A checkpoint-by-checkpoint guide to showing up sharp β€” from the moment you leave home to the moment you're cleared.

⚠
NoteHR Round is intentionally left out of this edition β€” content is being built from real inputs and will be added once confirmed.
Checkpoint 00

Before You Leave Home

Night BeforeOne-Time Setup

Create a drive folder, set sharing to "anyone with the link can view," and connect it to a link shortener. If you ever forget or lose a physical document, you can pull it up and get it printed anywhere.

Documents to upload

  • Resume (updated)
  • Passport size photo
  • 10th + 12th marksheets
  • All semester exam marksheets
  • One ID proof (e.g. Aadhar card)

Shortener

Use bit.ly, or a simple custom tool like link.henil.dev β€” gives a clean link such as link.henil.dev/yourname.

Checkpoint 01

Pre-Placement Talk

~60 MinAuditorium100–400 Candidates

The company shares the "goody-goody" things β€” what it's like to work there, the hiring process, the pitch. Walking in already knowing 60–80% of what's said is the difference between nerves and calm, especially when you're one of 100–400 people competing for 5–20 openings.

Before the talk

  • Re-read the company email sent by your placement cell
  • Visit the company website
  • Connect with HR & people in your target domain on LinkedIn
  • Check their Instagram, LinkedIn or other social handles

Carry & prepare

Physically bring
  • Small handheld fan (auditoriums get hot)
  • Notebook / notes app / pen & paper
Have answers ready for
  • "Why do you want to join ___ Company?"
  • "Have you seen our website?"
  • 1–2 questions of your own for "Any questions for us?"
Checkpoint 02

Aptitude Test

~30 MinPen-Paper or CBTAuditorium / Labs

The toughness here is rarely about subject knowledge β€” it's about how you handle pressure. Questions almost always look easier in hindsight, after the exam.

⚠
RuleDon't keep your mobile phone with you during the test.

Carry

  • Rough pages
  • Pen

Be psychologically prepared for

  • Internet not working properly
  • Your screen freezing
  • Power going out (if you're on a college PC)
  • All progress lost to a technical glitch

Practical approach β€” CBT

  • Write your login credentials (username & password) on paper before starting
  • Copy your username once typed β€” saves time if the password is wrong the first time
  • Read every instruction carefully before proceeding
  • Write down each question's reference number and your answer on paper β€” not just "no. & ans," since question order can shuffle on re-entry.
  • Network preference: College LAN >>> College WiFi > your own hotspot
  • Keep your own (or a friend's) hotspot ready as backup β€” that's on you to have covered, not on anyone else
Checkpoint 03

Digital Readiness

For Any Online StageGD / Tech / PI

Applies whenever a GD, technical round, or personal interview is conducted online β€” whether on drive day or scheduled for the next.

Technical setup
  • Own laptop, fully charged, with charger
  • Wired earphones / headphones β€” Bluetooth works 95% of the time, plan for the 5%
  • Check audio quality in Zoom / Meet / Teams beforehand
  • Check your webcam is working
  • Keep a backup audio/video setup ready, and all required apps pre-installed
  • Stable internet connection + backup hotspot on standby
Psychological setup
  • Assume the internet won't cooperate and the other person may not hear you clearly
  • Be ready for the worst β€” audio failing, video or screen-share going blurry
  • While answering, look into your webcam lens, not at the other person's video
Checkpoint 04

Group Discussion

Computer LabsSelect Companies

Whatever the topic, recruiters are watching three things: how Structured your thoughts are, how much Substance your insight has, and how unique your personal Style is. Remember β€” it's a discussion, not do-or-die.

S
StructuredBuild on top of the existing point. Your turn = Intro β†’ Point β†’ Outro.
S
SubstanceHave real perspectives already formed on common topics β€” AI, startups, work-life balance, social media.
S
StyleDon't fake an accent. Stay calm, composed, courageous. Never finger-point or personally attack anyone.
Checkpoint 05

Technical Round

May Run Next DayIf Online

You're essentially communicating three things: curiosity about the domain, technical agency, and the ability to learn on your own.

Standard flow

  • 1. Introduce yourself
  • 2. Deep dive into the stack / projects you mentioned
  • 3. A problem or simulation to test your programming skills

Introducing yourself β€” N.A.M.E.

N
Necessary detailsOnly what's actually useful for a technical round.
A
AchievementsEstablish trust β€” give them your credentials.
M
Make senseTie in a company project shared on their website or the pre-placement talk.
E
EngageClose with a line that invites them to ask a question.

Talking about a project β€” 5 pillars

O
ObjectiveThe goal or business need behind the build.
C
ContextWho was it for? Tech stack? Constraints?
C
ChallengesTechnical roadblocks or bugs you ran into.
A
ActionThe specific steps you took to engineer a solution.
R
ResultA measurable outcome β€” e.g. "30% load time reduction."

Om Desai

“A friend is the one who believes in you when no one else does.”

I don't remember exactly where I picked this up,some podcast, some book, some conversation with people I got lucky enough to sit across from. But it stayed.

As a kid, I mastered the craft of creating problems. Then life happened, and I learned the harder craft: identifying them, building systems to solve them, and knowing when the how needs to change even if the what stays the same.

So if you've lost hope after a rejection, if you want someone who brings structure, style, and substance to your interview prep, or if you just want a conversation that swings from Ancient Scriptures to science, psychology, politics, love stories, and everything in between, feel free to contact me up.
